Goshen Intermediate School students
celebrate Literacy Week
(Back)
May 26, 2009 -
The students at the Goshen Intermediate School
celebrated Literacy Week from May 1-8 with a number
of literacy-related activities and events.
Students participated in a Read-a-Thon, where they
tallied the number of pages they read recreationally
for an entire week. A large "thermometer" was
posted near the library in order to show the
students' progress. The Parent-Teacher Organization
(PTO) hosted a Scholastic Book Fair for students to
purchase age-appropriate literature.
Fifth grade students welcomed Beauty and the Beast
Storytellers Mitch Weiss and Martha Hamilton. The
husband and wife storytellers are renowned for their
work in teaching the art of storytelling and are
award-winning authors and recording artists.
Students also listened to guest readers from the
community during multicultural day, participated in
a school-wide book swap, and dressed as their
favorite book characters.
