Residents to vote on proposed budget on
Tuesday, May 15

On Tuesday, May 15, Goshen Central School District
residents will vote on a $61,613,356 proposed budget for 2012-13. This
budget, which represents a spending increase of 2.39 percent, will
result in a tax levy increase of 2.21 percent – an increase that meets
the district’s legal limit under the new tax levy cap legislation.

April 18, 2012 - At a meeting on April 16, the Board of Education
adopted a $61,613,356 proposed budget for 2012-13. This budget

April 9, 2012 - Every resident has the right to vote on the 2012-13 proposed budget,
which will be held on Tuesday, May 15. Residents who are unavailable to
vote in person may be eligible to cast their vote by absentee ballot.

Goshen recently received notices from the Town Assessor’s Office with
new preliminary property assessment figures. Although the district plays
no role in the reassessment process, district officials are aware that

State Legislature has passed a property tax cap, which seeks to limit
the annual increase in tax levies of local governments and school
districts to two percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is less.

June 14, 2011 - The Goshen Central School District
offered a 12-question voter exit survey at the budget vote on May 17,
2011. After voting, residents were offered a voluntary and anonymous
paper survey, which was set up on two tables outside the Main Street
Board of Education Room polling location.

Results from the 2011-12 budget vote
May 17, 2011 - On May 17, district residents passed
the proposed budget for 2011-12 by a vote of 1,401
yes votes to 754 no votes. The school bus purchase proposition passed
with 1,190 yes votes and 871 no votes, and the Capital Reserve Fund
proposition also passed, with 1,221 yes votes and 797 no votes.
Tom Frederick and Loretta Richner
were elected to the Board of Education with 1,383 votes and 1,270 votes,
respectively. District officials would like to thank the members
of the Goshen community for their continued support of our schools.
